Above the Snow Line Exhibition: Sarah Lynch

17.01—23.02.2025

About

Above the Snow Line is a photographic investigation of encountering the snow gums in the High Plains of the Victorian Alpine National Park. Snow gums are the only trees that grow above the snow line. They thrive in the most severe weather conditions, enduring snow, ice, and extreme winds. These unique trees are affected by the increasing threats of drought, bushfires and wood-boring beetle infestations.

This exhibition invites the viewer to look closely at the fragility and beauty of the iconic snow gum trees, highlighting their plight and need for protection as they have nowhere else to go.

Artist

Sarah Lynch is currently based in Narrm (Melbourne) and works primarily across digital and analogue photography, video and installation. Sarah’s most recent work has been driven by a desire to record the nuanced, ever-changing and almost imperceptible flourishes in the human-altered landscape. Her work aims to unsettle notions of how nature has been traditionally represented in photography. Sarah is interested in the tensions between nature and culture in fragile landscapes and exploring ecological themes.
